Alaska has dynamic weather and conditions can change rapidly. Ours seasons are also shorter and more extreme. Having a variety of clothing options will make your journey here more comfortable. For these reasons I have made a list to use while packing for your trip. This is just to illustrate the minimums and how extreme the weather can be from port to port.
- Tank top or T-shirt - Long sleeve - Zip up sweater or sweatshirt - Insulated Jacket like a puffy down jacket - Rain Jacket, I do NOT recommend an umbrella as at least in Skagway it can be quite windy and for that reason the rain sometimes like to fall sideways. - Rain pants - Tennis shoes - Rain boots - Walkable sandals (if the forcast makes you think it's possible) and yes, I have worn all these in one day... For more resources on weather please click here for historic weather figures. All non-USA citizens will need a passport to cross back into the USA. Please make sure to check that you do not also need a visa. Please have visa and Passport on your person during the tour.
If you are unsure as to if you will need a visa to enter the USA please use this link: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/international-visitors/visa-waiver-program All tours will need Passports. We have a strange situation at the border of USA and Canada. Due to the nature of the area there is an 8 mile gap between the actual physical border and the border control. This happens on both the USA and Canadian side. The reason in part that this occurs is due to the boarder being at the top of a mountain and the fact that we can get Avalanches in the winter and spring months. Even if you do not cross into Canada at all (Grand Slam Town and Summit Tour) You will still need your Passport or if a USA citizen a photo ID and original certified birth certificate because 8 miles into the 15 miles that it take to get to the top of the summit we will cross USA customs but will not have entered Canada.
Requirements for boarder crossing can change. To be most up to date on all the requirements it is best to check with the Canadian Government itself. Fortunately there is a great online resource for learning more about entering Canada HERE.
If you cannot aquire proper documentation before your trip you will not be able to enter Canada. Please make sure to download a picture of your visa onto your phone or camera as there is not service at the Canadian boarder crossing if it is an electronic visa. Pictures of Passports are not accepted. |
